CHAPTER FIVE

Evangeline promptly went to her room, walked into her bathroom, and splashed cold water on her face. The fact that John was spending the night in her house had her quite hot and bothered. This was certainly going to be a test of her woman power.

"Get a grip," she began, speaking to herself in the mirror. "Greenlee would laugh if she saw me now," she said with a laugh. That man is too damn sexy! she thought to herself, putting her head down on the sink.

John sat in Evangeline’s guestroom thinking. He was very attracted to her and wanted to let her know. No way was he going to spend the night in her house and not let his feelings for her be known. He could only hope that she felt the same. They almost shared a kiss earlier and he wanted to find out if the attraction was really mutual, or if the ‘almost-kiss’ was a fluke due to close quarters.

He got up from the bed and walked to Evangeline’s room. Her door was open. He knocked as he poked his head in the room. Walking in, he noticed the décor. Evangeline had some black and white vintage framed photography on the walls. It was a very classy and elegant look that suited her to perfection. The size of her room was noticeably big as well. She had a king size bed, and still there was enough room for two full dressers, two nightstands on either side of the bed, and an entertainment center.

Evangeline walked out of her bathroom. John turned around to see Evangeline standing there in a red fitted spaghetti strap tank and matching fitted boy shorts. Her hair was flowing over her shoulders, as she’d just taken down her ponytail. John loved everything about her. It was all so natural. She was naturally beautiful.

"Hi," he said breaking the silence.

"Hi yourself," she said looking at him. She wasn’t surprised to see him and was quite happy he was there before her.

He stood in front of her wearing a white fitted tank top and jeans. He looked so sexy in that tank. She loved the way the light in her room seemed to highlight his tattoos.

"You got a minute?" John asked, almost as if nervous.

"Sure. What’s up?" she asked moving closer to him, not sure what he was going to say.

"I know it’s really none of my business, but I’m just curious. What’s really going on between you and Lucky Spencer? I overheard you saying that you were looking forward to him coming to town. Is there more going on between you two?"

Evangeline replied with a laugh. John looked puzzled, but smiled. "Is it really that funny?" he asked.

"Yeah, actually it is," Evangeline began as she sat on her bed. "Lucky and I kind of grew up together. Our families knew each other. We were always attracted to each other and decided to start dating. It got serious for a while but then we both realized that we’d be better off as friends."

"But earlier you said that you still love him," John stated.

"Yes. I do still love Lucky, and I always will. But am I still in love with him? No, I’m not. And he’s not in love with me either."

John displayed a smile on his face and walked closer to Evangeline where she was sitting on her bed. She looked at him. "And while we’re double checking…Are you sure things are over with you and Natalie?"

"Yeah, things were over before they started. We had an emotional connection for a while. Our relationship was convenient," John said sitting down beside her. "Honestly, I could never be what Natalie wanted or needed me to be for her. She thought I was more emotionally available than I was. Maybe I mislead her. I never meant to hurt her though."

"You said your relationship with Natalie was convenient. What did you mean by that?" Evangeline asked trying to learn as much as she could about his relationship with Natalie.

John gave a light smile. "Have you ever thought you wanted something, and then you got it? But once you got it, you soon realized that it wasn’t right for you?"

Evangeline nodded yes.

"Well, that’s what I meant about our relationship being convenient. We were around each other a lot, had a lot of the same interests. It only seemed logical that we’d date each other."

"So Natty B. isn’t all she’s cracked up to be, huh?" Evangeline asked being very inquisitive.

"She’s a great gal. Just not for me," John simply replied.

"Yeah, Greenlee and I didn’t think you two were a good couple either."

"So you were talking about me?" John asked with a playful cockiness.

"Maybe," Evangeline responded with a playful cockiness and smile of her own.

John gently cupped Evangeline’s cheek. His crystal blue eyes locked with Evangeline’s warm, inviting brown eyes. They both leaned in closer and closer until their lips met. The kiss was light and gentle at first, like in dream-sequence slow motion. Every motion was slow and deliberate. Then it intensified with desire, passion, and need for both of them.

Evangeline began sliding her hands underneath John’s tank. She wanted to feel his muscular chest. She took off his tank and threw it on the floor. She delivered sweet, tender kisses all over his chest. He needed to feel her skin against his, flesh against flesh. He lifted her tank and released her ample, full bosom. He showered her breasts with kisses. They both ended up falling back in her bed. John was on top of her and they were enjoying kissing each other. It was obvious both of them wanted more.

"Do you want to stop?" John asked, searching Evangeline’s eyes for an answer.

"No, not now," Evangeline replied sure of herself. She had never been surer of anything in her life.

"Are you sure?" John asked, moving strands of Evangeline’s hair out of her face. "We’re going to the point of no return," he said gently as he ran his index finger down the center of her chest.

Evangeline shuddered at John’s touch. Then she replied with such sincerity that John knew she was sure of what she wanted. "I’d like to feel the passion to the point of no return."

He wanted her just as much. They couldn’t take off their remaining clothes fast enough. He took off his jeans and boxers and she took off her boy shorts. Everything was thrown to the floor.
