Chapter 1

John sits at his desk and he is talking on the phone.

"Yeah, that’s great, can you assure me this is the best one. Yeah it is for a special night."

John hangs up the phone with a smile crossing his face. He starts thinking about what he has planned for his anniversary date with Evangeline. He stares off into space not realizing that Nora is standing at his door.

"Yo! McBain," she yells to get his attention.

"Oh Nora, sorry I didn’t see you or hear you come in."

"What or should I say whom were you just thinking about there?" she says walking into John’s office.

"No one, just working on these Love Shack murders, that’s all." He replied smiling at Nora.

Nora moves into John’s office and closes the door and then takes a seat in front of his desk.

"Come on John, I think I know you a little better than that, you can be honest with me, you were thinking about Evangeline weren’t you?" she says with a coy smile.

"Nora, really it wasn’t anything, but let me ask you something and I do not want you to read anything in to this okay!"

"Yeah what is it John?"

"What size dress does Evangeline wear?" He asked with an inquisitive look on his face.

"Well I am going to guess a 2 or a 4 but I honestly do not know John, I think that is something you are going to have to ask her yourself." She replied.

"Thanks Nora, why did you come by to see me anyways." John says quickly changing the subject as to not alarm Nora as to his true intentions towards his question.

"I was just wondering if you had any more information on the murders of the Love Shack crew, but that can wait. Why do you need to know Evangeline’s dress size? Don’t think I am just going to drop a question like that. John what are you planning." She said pressing him for more information about his unusual question.

"Nora you know I am not going to tell you anything, so why would you even ask?" he said getting up from behind his desk and putting files away in his file cabinet.

"Fine, fine John if you find anything out you will let me know right?" Nora replied getting up from her seat and heading towards the door.

"Yeah of course I will. Nora please do not tell Evangeline about this conversation okay!" He replied as he ushered Nora out of his office.

"You got it McBain, my lips are sealed." Nora said making a zipping motion with one hand over her lips and her fingers crossed on her other hand behind her back.

"Hey Nora sorry, I am late, Judge Roberts just recessed a couple of minutes ago." Evangeline said rushing in to the restaurant coming up to the table where Nora is sitting waiting patiently for her arrival. "I hope you have not been waiting too long."

"No, no I just got here myself, I have not even ordered yet." Nora replied standing to give Evangeline a warm hug.

Nora and Evangeline sit down to lunch and order. They talk about the Love Shack murders and Evangeline’s custody case with RJ.

"So I ran into John today to talk about any new leads on the murders." Nora said as she took a bite of her burger.

"Yeah, really? How is he, we both have been so busy with work that I haven’t seen him in a couple of days." Evangeline quietly replied as she took a drink of her water. "We keep making lunch, and dinner planes but either one or both of us have to cancel. We are suppose to go out tomorrow night but who really knows.

"Oh really, just out of curiosity what are you guys planning on doing? " she replied hoping to figure out why John wanted to know her dress size.

"I think just dinner here and a game of pool maybe, not really sure, it is still kind of up in the air. Is there a problem Nora? Did John tell you something?" she said with a worried look on her face.

"No, no he didn’t say anything to me." Nora replied adverting her eyes away from Evangeline’s.

"Okay, Nora what aren’t you telling me." She said with an attitude as she place her turkey burger back on the plate. She wanted to know what Nora knew, and she was going to try her best to get it out of her.

"Really, Evangeline, John said nothing." She said with a small smile coming across her fast.

"Okay Nora fine do not tell me." She said returning to her meal.

They continued to eat and leave John out of the conversation.
