Part 21
Jason heard the shot and barged into the condo. "Keesha!" he called out in a panic.
"No!" Lorraine screamed.
Jason bolted up the stairs fearing the worse. The sight of Lorraine cradling Keesha's lifeless body stopped him cold.
"Keesha, baby!" he cried as everything moved in slow motion.
Lorraine continued to cradle Keesha, unaware of Jason's presence, while Malcolm nervously dialed 911.
"What have you done?" Jason yelled pushing Lorraine aside and taking Keesha in his arms. Feeling a weak pulse, he kept repeating the question over and over as he cradled Keesha. "What have you done?"
Before Lorraine could reply, the paramedics entered the room and immediately began attending to Keesha's injuries. Placing her on the gurney, one of the paramedics inquired, "Which one of you will be riding in the ambulance."
"I will," Jason said, not giving Lorraine or Malcolm a second thought.
"I'm her mother," Lorraine demanded partly hysterical. "You don't have any right to be anywhere near my daughter!"
"I'm her fiancee," Malcolm chimed in, unwilling to put up with Jason interference. "If anyone should be riding with her it should be me!"
"I think you both have done enough," Jason said harshly, observing Lorraine's blood soaked camisole. " I suggest you get dressed and call your husband. You wouldn't want him to hear about Keesha on the eleven o'clock news.
"Oh my God, Victor!" Lorraine gasped. "How am I going to tell him." Lorraine knew there was going to be hell to pay, once Victor found out the truth. But right now, Keesha was her first priority.
"I suggest you and your lover follow the ambulance to the hospital. That should give you time to get your story straight. I don't know what happened, but I promise, neither one of you will ever hurt Keesha again."

"Things are falling into place," Victor said to the counsel. "The heir shall be crowned and we will rule once again. We shall meet one month from today to discuss the final details."
The counsel was in agreement and the meeting was adjourned. Victor was in good spirits and decided to stop at Gia's for a nightcap before heading home.
Victor took a seat at the bar and ordered a vodka martini, when he noticed John McBain sitting with a beautiful woman at a table in the corner. Victor decided to say hello, then call it a night.
"Hello, John."
"Victor!" John said surprised. "What are you doing here?"
"I was finishing up a meeting and decided to stop and have a nightcap. I saw you and your lovely companion sitting here and thought I'd come over and say hello."
"Victor Mansfield, this is Evangeline Williamson."
"Hello, Mr. Mansfield," Evangeline said shaking his hand. "It's nice to meet you."
"The pleasure is all mine," Victor replied. "Evangeline Williamson. You're quite the superstar in the legal profession. Rumor has it that you have a bright future in politics."
"I had no idea, you knew who I was," Evangeline replied obviously flattered.
"I do my best to know the future mover and shakers," he said as his cell phone buzzed. "Excuse me, while I answer this call."
John and Evangeline sat making idle chatter, when they noticed the blood drain from Victor's face.
"Baby, just calm down. What hospital is she in? I'll be there in a few minutes!" He said in a trembling voice.
"What's wrong?" John asked as the hairs stood up on the back of his neck.
"That was my wife. Our daughter has just been rushed to the hospital," he said trying to hold back the tears.
"Oh God, is she sick?" Evangeline asked too concerned.
"No…someone shot my little girl!" He said slamming the phone closed. And whoever is responsible is going to pay dearly!"
