Chapter 3

Brenda flopped backwards on the bed next to Robin, who laid across the bed.

"This is tiring," Brenda said after the bed stopped bouncing.

"No kidding. And all this hard work is making me hungry."

"A nice, juicy chili burger- -"

"With chili cheese fries- -"

"And a strawberry shake- -"

"Followed by a banana split- -"

"With extra whipped cream and chocolate- -"

"And there’s only one place for a meal like that- -"

"Kelly’s," they yelled.

"Let’s go! We’ll pretend we’re teenagers again with no responsibilities, no cares, no worries, and no house to unpack," Brenda giggled.

"Sounds tempting, but I don’t feel like running into anyone just yet."

Brenda looked at her watch. "It’s 3:00pm, it’s after the lunch crowd and before the dinner crowd. It’ll be the perfect time to sneak in and out."

"Ok, let’s go."

They jumped off the bed and ran out of the room. Brenda made a quick pit stop by Anna’s and Tad’s room. Katie, Glory, and Robbie were sprawled out on the bed, dead to the world. She quickly and quietly closed the door and headed for the stairs.

Robin handed her one of the jackets, found in the living room. With the way it hung on her, it had to be one of the guy’s jackets. Brenda grabbed the keys from the table and yelled, "Mom, Tad, we’ll be back."

She and Robin tried to make a quick exit, but they were stopped seconds before they were successful.

"Where are you going?" Anna asked.

"To get some food. You want us to bring you back something?" Robin answered.

"And where else?" Anna’s inquiry continued.

"To get some accessories for the house," Brenda responded and then presented her palm face up and open to Tad. He immediately reached in his wallet and handed her a credit card. "The girls are asleep in your room. Love you." She headed out the door.

"Love you," Robin replied and quickly followed.

The next thing Tad and Anna heard was his brand new Mercedes Benz convertible take off. He ran to the door and threw it open, "Get back here with my car!"

"Honey, give it up!" Anna said with a smile.

"They took my car, left their kids, and now that I think about it did I give my credit card to a well paid Enchantment executive and a newly employed General Hospital doctor?"

Anna nodded her head, her laughter making it impossible for her to talk.

"They got the car and the credit card." JR shook his head. "You’re slippin’, dad."

"Where are you guys going?" Tad asked the four young men standing in front of him.

"To explore our new hometown," Aiden replied matter of factly.

"If the girls get a break, then so do we," Jamie said.

"Plus the better we know this town, the less chance, we’ll call in the middle of the night asking you guys to pick us up because we’re lost," Gabriel countered.

"Yeah, so give us some cash and we’ll be back shortly." Aiden said with his hand stretched out.

Tad went back into his wallet and gave each of them a portion of the money in his wallet. "Can you tell me, why I’m giving three adults money?"

"Think of it this way, Tad," Aiden stated, "I’m really the only working adult in this group, Gabe, JR, and Jamie are just poor students, and I’m just a working stiff that you’re just helping out." Aiden put the money in his pocket and walked out the door.

The other guys followed. They got into the Expedition with Gabe in the driver’s seat and took off.

Tad closed the door. "Working stiff, poor students. They live in a mansion and their clothing combined cost more than my brother spent on medical school." He leaned against the door. "I’ve been duped."

Anna brushed the tears of laughter from her face, "Yes, you have, but forget about that. The babies are sleeping and we have the rest of the house to ourselves," she said as she rubbed up against him.

"Ah, I like how your mind works. I can think of a few rooms that are close enough that we can hear the kids when they wake, but far enough," he kissed Anna passionately, "that you can scream as loud as you want."

"Then I say, it’s time to christen this house, Mr. Martin." She grabbed his hand.

"Let’s, Mrs. Martin." Tad said and ran up the staircase with his wife.
