“Since when did we get married?”

She froze when she heard his voice. His deep velvety voice just ran through her system like fine wine. Swiftly turning around “John?” she croak. Amaze, she gaze into his beautiful cobalt blue eyes, which held such warmth, with a mixture of pain. She stand by the door just taking his face in before she rushing to his side and she kiss him.

Over and over again she kiss him until she believe that he did wake up. His hands went into her hair, realizing that she needs this. Mindful not to hurt his bruise side or mess up the IVs, she gingerly sat on the bed as they kiss. Pulling away, she flash him the biggest grin of her life.

“You woke up,” pressing her forehead against his. Lifting her head, she took her fill of his face. “I thought I might never see you again” caressing his face.

“I'm okay.” Sliding the back of his hand down her cheek, not wanting to admit that he thought he would never see her again either. “Don’t cry.” He says when silent tears falls.

“I can’t help it.” laughing at herself “I’m just glad you’re alive John.” Bringing her face down he kiss her again more for his benefit than hers.

“We’re married.” He stated rather than ask.

Pulling his face back to hers “mmm.” They kiss long and deep, their tongues swirling around each others. Breaking apart she flash him a grin and start rambling about how the whole LPD brought him flowers and card. She fixes the many flowers and get well soon balloons litter across his room when he didn’t respond she realize what he was thinking.

“I hope you don’t think I’m trying to hint at something because I’m not. I just told them that so they would-”

“Don’t um worry about.” He said behind his hand, face turning a light pink color.

“You’re not scared that I’m trying to rope you in are you detective?” she ask turning around and lavishly winking at him.

Feeling embarrass and on the spot, he start stutters “ah no that uh never uh”

Laughing she smile and turns around back around to fix the bear that Natalie got for him. It’s so good to hear his voice again, to see his face. “Because if so let me put your mind at ease, I don’t want to get married.”

Any embarrassment that was on his face banish, his face a cold mask. Evangeline didn’t notice his fallen expression because she had turn around and started reading his get well cards to him.

Not being able to let the topic go “You don’t want to get married?”

“Not really. I’ve seen what marriage can do to two people and honestly I don’t want any part of it.”

“What do you mean you’ve seen what marriage can do to two people?” he ask sitting a bit straighter in bed, his eyes glued to her back.

Turning back around, she lean against the draw. Folding her hands under her chest “ I mean that marriage destroys people and even destroy the love they once had for one another. Prime example of this is my parent. When they got divorce it was messing and just a horrid experience to go through and I don’t want to go through. Ever”

“Not every one get divorce Evangeline, there are some who make it to happily ever after and stay that way.”

“I know but I still don’t want to get married because if I did there is always a high risk of divorce.”

“So what are we doing then?”

Cocking her head to the side and raising an eyebrow “Are you saying you want to marry me Mcbain?” her heart beat speeding up at the notion, through she wasn’t sure why since she didn’t want to get married.

“No, I’m just saying isn’t that the point of relationship to get married and whatnot.” waving his hand about.

“I suppose if either of us was in the market for marriage.” The tension in the room was palpable. John kept staring at her and she moves her eyes first. Wanting to change the situation she walk back to the stool and she took his hand in hers. “You won’t be back at the station for a while.”

“I know and I don’t feel anything about that yet.” he close his eyes, letting the subject drop. When she would have gotten up, a hand went out to grab her wrist. “Don’t go.” turning his face slightly away when she sit back down “tell me about something…anything.”

Finding his request strange “ I um miss my flight.” His eyes flew open and he sat up quickly wincing in pain at his side start throbbing. Pushing him back on the bed “John are you crazy? Slow down.”

“You’re flight!” he said loudly as it hit him. “You were to leave the day I got injured. I knew there was something I was supposed to be doing that night but everything was so hectic. Why didn’t you go?”

“oh I don’t know,” putting a finger on her chin and mock thinking about it “a certain blue eyes cop was stabbed,” she said looking him over and giving him a “duh” look.

“I know, but I know how huge and important that case was to you and-”

Interrupting him she put a finger across his lips “you’re right that case was huge and important but something else was even huger and more important to me than that case.” bending down she softly kiss his lips.

Turning a soft shade of pink, he look so fluster that she couldn’t help but laugh.

“You think this is funny? Huh?” he ask a bemuse smile on his slightly blushing face.

“Yes I do and cute” after a moment of silence, “you’ll never know how scared I was for you John.” her voice soft.

“you don’t have to say this” placing his hand at the back of her neck and messaging it.

“I want to. I realize we never talk about feelings or at least I never have and this is a good of time as any.” Taking a mental breath and giving her confidence a mental boost she began to talk.

“It used to be that my career came before everything, but every since the basement,” they both blush at the reference. “I don’t want to work all the time anymore, I have to really force my self to do anything because I would much rather think about something else.”

“Like what?” She looks so vulnerable as she talk to him, he knew Evangeline had hang ups about relationship maybe even more so than he had.

“Like you,” at his expression, she chuckle “don’t be so shock Lieutenant, you mean a lot to me…a lot more than anyone has to me in a long time.”

John knew it took a lot for her to say it. Bringing her head down, he kiss her again, pulling apart he whispers into her ear “You mean a lot to me too and for the record I don’t want anyone else but you.”

“Are you as scared as I am about this?” she ask lifting her head from his chest to look him in the eye.

“Terrified,” laughing they both lean for a kiss that would seal the deal.
