Alex made her way back to her room at the Palace after a long day of baking in the kitchen. She flopped on the bed, kicked her shoes off let her hair down, and flipped on the TV. Nothing interesting was on so she turned it down to a low whisper and went in to the bathroom to shower and wash away her day. Lunch with John was great, it was better than she had hoped for. There was one problem and her name was Evangeline Williamson. The name sounded familiar and she looked familiar as well. Alex couldn't place where she might have seen her or ran into her before. She stepped into the steamy shower and let the water rush over her body. After the long hot shower she slipped into the silk robe that she had and picked up the phone.

“Hey, Adian.”

“Alex, my dear. What can I do for you?”

“Well actually I was wondering if you found out any more on my father or his family?”

“Hun, I am still looking. I have a couple of calls into the school districts in the Philadelphia and Pittsburgh areas. But nothing yet. You said he was a teacher right?”

“Yeah, that is what my mom said before she died. I just hope I can find him and he can tell me why he abandoned my mom and me.”

“Alex I am doing everything I can to help you. How are things there in Llanview?”

“Okay I guess?”

“What are the guys like, anything like me?”

“Adian please.” She said with a small laugh.

“Well, have you met anyone yet? I know how shy you can be.”

“Well, actually I have.”

“Ohh, really what is he like?”

“Who said it was a he?” she asked with a raised voice.

“Chill out Alex, we are friends. I can tell when you are talking about a guy or a girl friend.”

“Sorry. Well he is a cop. Some of my stuff got stolen the first day I was here and he is helping me find it.”

“Are you okay? Why didn't you tell me this?” he asked with care and concern in his voice.

“Because it really wasn't that big of a deal. I wasn't even going to report it, but I thought I should.”

“Okay, okay, just as long as you are okay. Listen I have to run. Got some P.I. stuff to do. I will call you as soon as I find out anything.”

“Thanks Adian. Bye.”

“Bye, love.”

Alex sat back on the bed and closed her eyes. She thought about her mom and how much she missed her. Tears started rolling down her cheeks and she wiped them away. “I can't do this. I have to get out of here.” She said to her self. She threw on a pair of jeans and a t-shirt and headed outside. She hailed the first cab she saw and asked the driver to take her to a bar where she could relax and listen to some great music.

The driver pulled up to Capricorn. Alex got out looked around at her surroundings and found her way in to the club. She walked up to the bar and asked for a gin and tonic. The bartender made her drink and she found a quite table in the back and took a seat. As she was sitting down she heard the music start to play and it piqued her interest. She focused on the music letting everything around her fade to the background until she felt a slight tap on her shoulder.

“Mind if I sit here?” said a strong voice next to her.

Alex’s eyes sprung up to see the very attractive man standing smiling back at her.

“Sure.” She said scooting over.

“Hi. Antonio Vega.”

“Alex Prince.” She said shaking the man’s hand.

“So are you enjoying the music? You looked really lost over there?”

“I am, it was weird, it is just totally engulfing.”

“I know what you mean.” He said staring in to her brown eyes.

“So are you new in town? I don't think I have seen you here before.” He said playing with his beer.

“Yes I am.”

“How do you like our small town USA?” he said laughing.

She laughed back, “Actually it is nice. Besides getting robbed my first day here, things are going good.”

“Wow, that sucks did you report it to the police?”

“Yeah I did. The officer handling the case was really sweet.”

“Really, do you mind if I ask whom it was. I use to be on the police force in town.”

“Umm, a Lieutenant by the name of McBain, John McBain. Do you know him?”

“Yeah, I do actually, he is a good friend. If you had to run into any police officer to help you find your stuff you sure picked a good one.”

“Well that is great to know.”

“What do you do here in Llanview?” Antonio asked smiling at her.

“I am a pastry chef at the Palace.”

“Wow, sounds like an interesting job.”

“It can be yeah. What do you do? You mentioned that you don't work at the Police station any more.”

“Actually I am going to law school to finish up my degree.”

“Wow that is impressive.”

“Yeah I guess. Excuse me.” He said to answer his ringing cell phone. He got up and walked away from the table smiling back at Alex. When he came back, “I am sorry. That was my mother; she needs me to help out at her diner. You should come by some time I will by you lunch or something.”

“That sounds nice. Which diner is it?”

“The Angel Square Diner. Do you know it?”

“Yeah actually I do, that is where I had my first meal here in Llanview, and it was great by the way.”

“That is quite a compliment coming from a chef.”

Alex laughed and dropped her head down in embarrassment.

“Well it was nice to meet you Alex Prince. I hope to see you around sometime.”

“Maybe you will.” She said standing to shake his hand.

Antonio walked away looking back over his shoulder once smiling at Alex as she watched him walk away. “Maybe this town isn't so bad after all.” She thought to herself.

John woke up in the middle of the night to a vibrating cell phone that was placed under his pillow on Evangeline’s bed as to not wake her in the middle of the night. He slipped out of bed and into the hallway so not to disturb her sleeping. He closed the door slightly behind him but stood at the door watching Evangeline sleep through the crack of the door.

“McBain.”

“Hey, Lieutenant sorry to wake you, but the evidence report from the Killing Club Murders, is missing.”

“What!” John yelled in to the phone.

“Yeah, I was going through the files looking for any clues or links that we might have missed and the report from the diner, with the waitress that died is missing.” Said Vince on the other end flipping through the papers.

“Vince, are you kidding me? You can't be serious now. I know I left those files in my office. Did you check in there?” John asked running a hand through his hair in frustration.

“Yeah I did. I couldn't find them.”

“Listen, there isn't anything I can do from here, and there is no way I am coming back to the office tonight. Just work through what you have and I will be in first thing in the morning before your shift ends.”

“Okay Lieutenant will do. And again sorry for waking you like this.”

“It’s okay, listen can you do me a favor?”

“Sure anything.”

“Take a break from this Killing Club stuff, and run a complete background check on a Jasper Jax. He is from Australia. Dig up anything and everything that you have on him in the states and also overseas. Also if there is anyone in the financial department see if they can dig up the financial's on him as well.”

“Sure boss. Anything else?”

“No, that should do it. Keep this quiet Vince.”

“Of course sir. I will see you in the morning.” Vince replied.

“Yeah sure.” John said with disappointment in his voice. He hung up the phone and slowly made his way back into the bedroom. He slipped himself and the phone back into bed. Evangeline barely stirred from his movements. She was lying on her stomach with her head facing him. He brushed some lose hair away from her face and slid further down into the bed so that his face was facing hers. He ran his fingers up and down her back and a small smile appeared on her face.

“Are you awake?” he whispered?

“Maybe.” She said back quietly.

“I am sorry I didn't mean to wake you.”

“It wasn't you, it was who ever decided to call you at whatever time it is in the middle of the night.” She said with her eyes still closed.

“I am sorry, it was work.” John said stroking her face with his fingers.

“Do you have to leave?” she asked slowly opening his eyes, searching them for the truth.

“No, I am not going anywhere tonight. I am right here with you.”

“Good, that is what I like to hear. I don't know how I am going to be able to handle being a cop’s wife.”

“The same way you handled being a cop’s girlfriend, with grace and beauty. Worrying when you have to and understanding when I can't tell you everything.” He said kissing her on the lips. “Now, go back to sleep.”

“Okay.” She said closing her sleepy eyes. She moved closer to him laying her head on his chest under his chin. He kissed the top of her head and closed his eyes nothing filled his thoughts but him and her and their future together.

At the Police Station the next morning

“Vince thanks again for doing this and keeping it quite.”

“No problem Lieutenant. Did you find those missing files?” Vince asked before leaving John’s office.

“I am still looking; I have the lab reprinting the reports though just in case.”

“Sorry about calling so late last night, I just thought you would want to know about the files.”

“Really Vince it is no problem. I am glad you called, that way I was able to get this stuff on Jax sooner rather than later. Are the financial's in here too?”

“No they aren't, they should be on there way up in a few minutes. They guys printer was broken or something like that so he had to find another printer to print everything off on. I will let you alone, I am going to get home and get some rest. See you on my in later.” Vince said leaving John’s office.

“See ya.” John said returning to the file that Vince had brought him on Jasper Jax. John read the file from cover to cover learning all about how Jax had loved and lost many women and how vengeful he could be if ever crossed. Jax and John had some things in common like thinking that they could not love again after losing someone so tragically until some amazing women came into their lives and changed all that. John learned how he had blackmailed multiple women into doing things for him or revealing their secrets. The financial records finally arrived and John was shocked to see not only how much money Jax had but how many company’s he had his hand in and ruined for that matter.

“Evangeline Williamson.” She said answering the ringing phone in her office.

“Hey you.” He said with a smile.

“Hey yourself.” With the same bright smile he had.

“Listen I got the information about Jax.”

“And…”
