Chapter 4 (Disclaimer: Natalie and Chris never became involved. She was born and raised a Buchanan.)

Evangeline put on the finishing touches of her makeup, as she waited for John's arrival. Their past few weeks together had gone better than she expected. She couldn't quite put her finger on it, but somehow he seemed different, yet the same.

She took one last look in the mirror and liked the finished results. Since he suggested she dress casual, Evangeline chose a low-cut black denim vest with a pair of formfitting blue jeans, black belt and high heel boots. The Aztec necklace and earrings set off the outfit.

"Damn, I look good!" she smiled as the doorbell rang.

Evangeline caught her breath at the sight of John in black leather pants and slightly sheer, form fitting black shirt that complimented his muscular arms and chest.

"Hello, love," he smiled before pulling her into a passionate kiss. "Damn, woman you look hot!"

"So do you," she said trying to fan the heat in her loins. "So where are we going?"

"It's a surprise," he winked.

Thirty minutes later they pulled up in front of The Underground, the hottest dance club in Lainview.

"You are definitely full of surprises, McBain!" She laughed. "The last I remember, you hated dancing."

"That was then and this is now," he smiled. "Now let's go have some fun!"

Once again, John surprised Evangeline with his moves on the dance floor. When it came to the fast grooves, he matched her step for step. But it was his seductive rhythm to the slow grooves that as putting lustful thoughts in her head. Their bodies melted together as The Whisper's 'In the mood' played in the background, while they lost themselves in each other.

"Why don't we go back to my place," he whispered, lightly kissing the spot on her neck making her weak in the knees.

"Mmmm McBain," she whispered. "You read my mind. I just need to stop in the ladies room."

Natalie and Jessica Buchanan watched John and Evangeline from across the dance floor in total disbelief.

"What the hell is so special about her?" Natalie seethed. "Not once did he ever take me out dancing the entire time we dated. Yet this chick pops into town and suddenly he's John fucking Travolta!"

Natalie Buchanan had set her sights on John McBain, upon his arrival in Lainview. As the niece of the Police Commissioner and the daughter of Vicki Buchanan, she was able to use that to her advantage, when it came to getting vital information on John.

Although he kept things close to the vest when it came to his private life, Natalie managed to find out that he took the breakup with his girlfriend Caitlin very hard. Pretending to play the friend, she finally wore him down and they began to date.
Unfortunately for Natalie, she had no clue about John's past relationship with Evangeline.

John wasn't ready to date anyone after his affair with Evangeline ended. But loneliness has a way of making you do thing you wouldn't normally do. Natalie's offer of friendship seemed like a good idea at the time. But after a month of hanging out, he realized that she wanted more than he could give. Not wanting to hurt her feelings, it was another month, before he got the nerve to end their relationship. Throwing himself into work was the best way for John to get his mind off Evangeline and avoid Natalie. That was until Evangeline arrived in Lainview.

"After the way he treated you, I can't believe he has the nerve to show up with her!" Jessica replied glaring at John and Evangeline. "I think you need to go over there and set him straight!"

"You're right," Natalie said as she swallowed the last of her beer and made a beeline towards John and Evangeline, with Jessica close on her heels.

Natalie and Jessica stood in front of John blocking his view. "John, I don't appreciate you coming here flaunting your fling with that Williamson woman!"

"Especially after what you put my sister through," Jessica huffed. "I suggest you show a little more respect!"

John laughed as he stared at the two girls standing before him. "What's the matter Natalie? You're still upset because I didn't tap that ass?"

"What…." Natalie stuttered. "What did you say to me?"

"That's why you keep coming around isn't it?" John asked with an air of smugness.

"How dare you talk to my sister that way!" Jessica yelled, furious at John's behavior.

"I'm a grown ass man!" John shouted. "Who I see and what I do is none of your damn business. Therefore, I suggest the both of you stay out of my face."

"If Uncle Bo heard the way you were talking to us, he'd fire you on the spot!" Jessica cried.

"Damn straight!" Natalie fumed, stunned by John's cruelty.

John slowly stood and backed both women against the wall. "I'm not afraid of Uncle Bo, Mama Vicki or Grandpa Asa, so don't fuck with me little girls!"

"John, is everything okay?" Evangeline asked noticing the nervous look on the Jessica and Natalie's faces.

John smiled at Evangeline and kissed her on the cheek. "Everything's fine, isn't it ladies?" he said cutting a menacing look.

"Yeah…. everything's fine," they both answered slowly.

"Enjoy the rest of your evening ladies," John smiled as he and Evangeline walked away.

"Who was that?" Jessica asked nervously.

"I don't who that was," Natalie stammered. "But it sure as hell wasn't John!"
