Web of Deception Chapter 17
"What took you so long?" Keesha asked.
"I was busy setting your old friend straight," Malcolm replied looking over the menu. "I know I've been working a lot lately, but I never thought you would lower yourself to such a childish tactic trying to make me jealous, especially with a loser like Jason."
"What the hell are you talking about?" Keesha asked angry at Malcolm's insinuation.
"Let's just forget about it," he said lightly patting her hand. "I'm starving. I hear the steak is excellent here."
"No, let's not forget about it," she said grabbing the menu from Malcolm's hand.
"Keesha, I know you've been a little insecure about losing me. But I promise you have nothing to worry about. All that matters is that I love you and forgive you, so let's drop it and enjoy the rest of our evening."
Keesha couldn't believe what she was hearing. Sometimes she chose to overlook Malcolm's arrogant tendencies. Unfortunately for him, tonight was not one of those times.
"Malcolm, let's get one thing straight," she said with a cold hard stare. I have never and I mean never been insecure about losing you. Now don't get me wrong, if you left me right now it would hurt. But trust me I would definitely get over it."
"Baby calm down, you're overreacting."
Of all the women he had been with, Keesha was one of the sweetest. But every now and then, flashes of her mother's temper would show and it was always best to back off.
"Don't baby me and don't talk to me in that condescending tone, as if I'm a child."
"I'm sorry Keesha. I guess seeing Jason flirting with you got me upset. "I already had one Hawkins woman play me. There's no way it's going to happen twice," he thought."
"I'm not buying your weak ass apology. Sometimes I get the feeling that you think I should be honored or grateful to be your fiancee."
"Well, marrying me is a major step up from that lowlife Jason Quartermane."
"It's obvious three's a crowd," she said fed up with his arrogance. "So why don't I leave you and your ego alone to enjoy the evening."
"Where are you going?" he asked grabbing her arm.
"Let me go, before I kick your ass," she said in a harsh whisper.
Malcolm saw the flash of anger in her eyes and decided to quit while he was ahead.
"I'm sorry. You know I would never hurt you," he said regretting his actions.
"I'm going to stay at my parents house," she said unmoved by his words.
"I'll call you in the morning."
"Do whatever you want," she replied not looking back.
John watched from his table as Keesha left the restaurant. "Interesting," he thought. Maybe Evangeline is right as he thought back to their earlier conversation.
"I don't think it's a good idea to go through with this plan," John said. "Do you have any idea who Victor Mansfield is?"
"I know he's a powerful man, John. But it's not like I'm setting out to cause Keesha physical harm. Actually, I'll be doing her a favor," she reasoned.
"How do you figure that?" he asked curiously.
"By exposing her mother's affair with Malcolm, Keesha breaks off their engagement and ends up with her true love Jason. I'll be there to pick up the pieces of Malcolm's heart and Lorraine will face the wrath of her husband and daughter," she explained.
"While you're picking up the pieces of Malcolm's heart, what happens to us?" he wondered.
"We've got a sweet thing going here. It doesn't have to stop, just because I marry Malcolm," she said coyly. "Besides, it's not like Ill be married to him forever. It'll just be long enough to build a power base. So can you handle being my secret lover for a while?"
"I can handle it, as long as we don't stop," he said pulling her close. "But this is a dangerous game we're playing. Victor Mansfield is very dangerous. If he ever found out or if something goes wrong, there will be hell to pay for the both of us."
"Nothing will go wrong," she assured him.
But John couldn't ignore the little voice in his head. " Something terrible is going to happen."
